A Careful Arrangement is a series of three banner designs commissioned as part of Counterpublic - 2019

These permanently installed street banners source my personal archive of vernacular photographs collected from shops on Cherokee street's antique row in St. Louis, Missouri.

The banners provide a glimpse into the everyday image-making practices of Black communities. In these photographs, the subjects embrace, pose, gather and gaze. I present them for viewers to consider the possibility of beauty and even joy in the mundane and to reckon with that which is unknowable.
