Photographs > Sons of Rest

Sons of Rest documents the Black, Queer community of Saint Louis, Missouri.
Named for a pavilion in South Saint Louis' Tower Grove Park, the series began in 2010 as coverage of Saint Louis' annual pride celebration. Situated on the edge of the park, the Sons of Rest Pavilion was the unofficial gathering place of Black, Queer pride attendees before the festival was moved to downtown Saint Louis in 2013.
These images are a testament to assembly, celebration and joy. As these spaces disappear we continue to remake them.
